Soprano Margot Porter has been heard in opera, oratorio, opera scenes, and recitals around the United States and internationally.听 Her favorite performed opera roles include Violetta (La traviata), Madame Lidoine (Dialogues of the Carmelites), Fiordiligi (Cos矛 fan tutte), Lady Billows (Albert Herring), C猫lie (Signor Deluso), and Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni).
Porter has sung with the International Lyric Academy in Vicenza, Italy, Opera Steamboat in Colorado, SOO Opera in Michigan, and Antigua y Moderna in New Mexico.听 She made her Opera Omaha debut in 2024 as a chorus member in the opera La traviata.听 Through these programs, Porter has worked with world-renowned directors, conductors, and vocal coaches, including E. Loren Meeker, Dr. Steven White, Brendan Shapiro, and Dr. Kristin Ditlow.
Porter earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Voice Performance at the University of Nebraska鈥揕incoln in 2025.听 While at UNL, Porter was a Graduate Teaching Assistant, where she taught applied voice lessons, Voice Skills for music education majors, and English, Italian, and French diction courses. She graduated from the University of New Mexico in 2021 with a Master of Music in Voice Performance, and from Winona State University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance and a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education.听 She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
During her time at UNL, Porter completed her document 鈥淎N AMERICAN SONG CYCLE: A PERFORMANCE GUIDE TO THE RIM OF LOVE BY ANDREA CLEARFIELD,鈥 which provides information on the soprano and piano version of the original song cycle for soprano and orchestra composed in 2005. Porter traveled to Philadelphia in March, 2025, to perform two of the pieces, 鈥淐ANYON鈥 and 鈥淩IM鈥 with Clearfield at her in-home Salon, in honor of the poet,
Manfred Fischbeck. Porter will be returning to the Salon in March 2026 to perform the other pieces in the cycle, 鈥淐LIFF鈥 and 鈥淓DGE鈥.
Porter and her collaborator Michael Cotton were the first to perform the entire cycle of The Rim of Love for soprano and piano in April, 2025.
Along with performing, Porter taught junior high choir and general music at Ben Franklin Junior High in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, from 2015 to 2019.听 During this time, she directed various plays, including 鈥淭he Jungle Book,鈥 taught music theory during the summer at Stevens Point Area Public High School, and played the piano with the pit orchestra for the musical 鈥淢ary Poppins鈥 at SPASH.听 While in Stevens Point, she participated as a featured soloist in the Monteverdi Chorale, which included singing on their tour to Canada and Vermont, and served as the music director for a production of 鈥淢ary Poppins鈥 with CWACT.
Porter is currently the Administrative Assistant to the Children鈥檚 Choir at Pottawattamie Arts, Culture & Entertainment (PACE). She is also an adjunct voice instructor at the University of Nebraska 鈥 Omaha, and a Lecturer at the University of Nebraska 鈥 Lincoln, teaching voice lessons and German diction.
