Dr. Beatrice Waterhouse is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology joining the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ faculty for the 2026-27 academic year. She earned a PhD in Sociology and an MA in Latin American Studies at the University of California, San Diego. Prior to joining Hastings, Waterhouse was an Instructor of Sociology at San Diego Miramar College.
Her research focuses on the intersection of migration, religion, and race and ethnicity. Her publications include work on religiously motivated vigilantism and laws of return. Another research interest is in sociological pedagogy, where she has published on using polling to unpack students’ lay definitions of violence and is currently at work on a project about student reactions to religious texts in secular classrooms.
